Our Love Story

Today I'm linking up with Becky From Mrs. to Mama for "What's Your Love Story". 1. How long have you and your significant other been together? The husband and I have been together since November 1999

2. How did you meet? {What's your "love" story?} The husband and I first met at a local nightclub. I was there with a friend of mine and he was there with a group of friends that I happened to know. A drunk guy was dancing up on the stage, more of a platform really, and he pulled me up on this stage with him to dance. My friend thought it was hilarious; I did not! Luckily, Dan, my husband, could see that I was not enjoying this and pulled me back down and pretended that I was with him. He saved me from the crazy dancing guy! That was in the spring of 1999. Later that year, two of my friends were having a Halloween party at their apartment. When we went out to get "supplies", we ran into Dan and his friends and invited them over. At the party, I was really interested in another guy that my friends made sure to invite for me! Meanwhile, Dan was downing his beverage of choice for the evening and ended up hitting on me, to put it nicely and PG! Well, it didn't work out with me and the guy I was interested in that night, and Dan had left a really bad impression. A few weeks went by, and his friends, who I knew, kept trying to get me to go out with Dan. They promised the guy I met that night was not the real Dan. After weeks of hearing this, I decided to give him a chance. We ended up going to a local coffee shop/restaurant with a group of friends and afterwards, we talked for what seemed like an eternity. The two of us just seemed to click instantly and we've been together ever since.

3. If married, how long have you been married? If not, is this the guy you hope to marry? We got married in front of all our family and friends on May 18, 2002.

4. If you are married, where did you get married at? Big or small wedding? If not, where would you like to get married? And will it be big or small? With all our friends and family, our wedding was on the big side. It took place in an old church in my parent's hometown where my parents and other family members were married.

5. Do you have any nick-names that you call one another? He typically calls me 'wife' or 'the wife' and I can him 'husband' or 'the husband'! Other than that, you might hear us call each other 'babe', ‘buddy’ or ‘friend’!

6. Name 3 things you love most about your honey.

  • Funny - This man can basically get me to laugh even when I'm not in the mood to laugh. There are times when it's very difficult, but typically he can get a laugh out of me and nudge me into a good mood!
  • Supportive - He supports me in everything that I do and is always trying to help boost my confidence.
  • Loving - During my pregnancy, he made sure I didn't over-do it, lift more than 20 lbs, and made me watch my step. Once I ended up on bed rest at the end of my pregnancy, he took on all the housework and preparations that needed to get done for our daughter's arrival.

7. Tell us how he proposed? Or your ideal proposal? We took a little weekend getaway in a town a few hours away and stayed in a nice bed and breakfast. Before we went to the restaurant where he had made reservations for our anniversary, he wanted to take me somewhere to show me something. So we went driving in the opposite direction of the restaurant and ended up on this road that ran along a river down in the valley. He pulled over and we got out and just looked at the beautiful sunset. He then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

8. Is he a flowers and teddy bear kind of guy for v-day, or strawberries, champagne, and rose petals? We are not too big on Valentine's Day, although we do celebrate it. For our first Valentine's Day, he got me the Calla Lilly picture that I had my eye on at a store, along with a great card. I still love that picture to this day!

9. Are you a sunset dinner on the beach kind of girl, or pop a movie in and relax on the couch? We are homebodies! I rather relax and watch a movie on the couch, although the husband would say that I listen to the movie while reading a magazine or using my computer!

10. Tell us one thing you'd like to do with your significant one day. If you could do anything? Go anywhere? I am fascinated with the Northern Lights and we have actually been to Alaska and Sweden where at times they can be seen, but we were not lucky enough to see them, so this is something that I would love to experience with him.

11. Tell us what you plan on doing on this Valentine's Day. The husband and I are taking the day off and baby girl will be at daycare, so we are taking a day trip to another town for a nice lunch and maybe visit their aquarium that we've heard about. We typically take the weekend and go somewhere, but we were a little slow on making plans this year, so we are just doing the day trip.

12. Are you asking for anything this Valentine's day? We typically don't do gifts for Valentine's Day. We just take time to relax and enjoy our time together.

13. Give us one piece of advice of keeping a relationship strong and full of love. Be a best friend. I can truly say that my husband is my best friend. I can trust him with anything I tell him and I know that I have his full support and he will be there to cheer me on and pick me up when I am down.

14. Show us a picture of what love means to you.
