Meal Planning

by Michelle in , ,

Last week's post stated that I would have a meal plan this week.  Well, I guess I lied because it is Thursday and I really do not have one.  To be honest, I have been lacking the motivation to come up with healthy meals for this week which has led to my plan to get myself motivated.  Since I am a competitive person, I decided that there needs to be weekly weigh-ins with the husband and there needs to be some sort of reward/punishment scenario between the two of us.  I mentioned my idea to the husband Tuesday evening and the brainstorming began.  We will begin finalizing the details of this weight loss challenge this weekend and I will blog the details.  Also this weekend, I hope to begin a new system of getting the meal plan created by Saturday so that shopping can be completed and then prep foods for the week.  My hope is to not spend nap time prepping for dinner since I have a little girl that likes to stand exactly where I am standing in the kitchen no matter where I move.  So that is the plan, now I just need to actually do the plan!  Maybe I need to go print off some pictures of myself and post them throughout the house to motivate me a little more.

Meal Planning Monday

by Michelle in , ,

There will not be a menu plan for this week.  The changes that I blogged about on Friday will begin in full force next Monday.  This will I will be working on my plan to recreate what I did while on Jenny Craig as well as research what my workout plan will be.  Even though I do not like depriving myself of certain foods while trying to lose weight, I do feel like I need to avoid some of those foods for awhile.  When I look back at what I did on Jenny Craig, the first month was 100% foods from Jenny Craig and I remember being nervous about taking a weekend trip and eating at a restaurant.  Two and a half weeks after starting my new plan, I will be faced with Thanksgiving, so my plan is to be a little strict with myself until then and hopefully not over indulge that day and live on fattening leftovers.  I seeing some quality time on Pinterst looking for some good veggie and healthy dessert recipes happening this week in preparation of the new plan.

Changes

by Michelle in , , ,

Life is full of changes and there are a few changes happening in my life now and in the very near future.  As I thought about this post regarding changes, it reminded me of a blog post I did a few years ago on my old blog regarding one of the changes that will be happening once again. The first change has kind of already started.  It is a change in my daughter's daily schedule.  For almost two weeks now, she has been taking just one nap a day.  She is adjusting very well with this new schedule and I just need to do a better job utilize the time that she is asleep.  I am used to having two nap times that last two hours each.  Now she is sleeping an hour longer and napping for around three hours on a good day, so I am basically getting the same about of "me" time, just at different times of the day than before.

The second change is all about me.  As I noted at the beginning of this post, I am having the same battle and the same realization regarding my weight.  On a positive note, I know that I can change my eating habits and lose the weight that I want and need to lose because I did that prior to becoming pregnant with my daughter.  Now that my daughter is one, she is now eating regular foods and is starting to have interest in what I am eating.  The bad thing is that what I am eating is something I do not want her eating.  I came to the realization weeks ago that I am way more concerned with what is going into her body instead of what is going into mine.  If I had that same concern for me, I know I would not be in this situation.

Even though I lost a good amount of weight prior to my daughter being born, my overall goal is to go past that weight.  At my pre-pregnancy, I was beginning to feel good about myself, so my pre-pregnancy weight is my first goal.  This Christmas will be two years since I reached my goal weight to start trying for a baby.  At this point, I will not be at my pre-pregnancy weight by Christmas and I am beginning to accept this.  So how do I plan to change this part of me?  To lose the weight previously, I joined Jenny Craig and I still have all my information from when I lost the weight, so that is my guideline.  Each week while on Jenny Craig, I made a food order and I still have all that information...yes, I keep some of the strangest stuff!  My plan is to not buy their food.  Instead, I remember the types of foods that were available and I have the nutritional information so this will allow me to plan my meals like I did before.  While on Jenny Craig, I also worked out, so this is where utilizing my "me" time comes into play.

My overall goal is to be a great role model for my daughter.  As I stated before, she is starting to pay more attention to what I am doing and at some point she will ask me, "Mommy, why are you not eating your vegetables?".  I really want to avoid her asking me this question.  My daughter has changed my life in so many ways.  Little does she know that at the age of one, she is helping me become a better and healthier person.

Meal Planning Monday - Week 16

by Michelle in , , , ,

Looks like something happened when I set this post to auto post yesterday, so here's this week's menu. Well, on day 2 of Paleo, it was decided that this way of eating was not just too hard for me with all the restrictions and the limited number of foods I like being 'allowed', so we decided to stop.  Since we got a giant thing of Pork Butt and a turkey to roast, we are all set for lunches this week.  Here is what's for dinner this week:

Monday - Turkey Burgers

Tuesday - Chicken Meatballs with Spaghetti

Wednesday - Leftover Pork Chops

Thursday - Pierogies

Friday - Mexican Night

Saturday - Cheese Ravioli

Sunday - Fiesta Lime Chicken

Meal Planning for the Child - Week 1

by Michelle in

I have been starting to look into the concept of baby lead weaning because I am becoming a bit concerned that our daughter will end up being a picky eater like me, so once I know more about that, I will be incorporating that into our daughter's meals.  From the books that I have gathered, most of the meals make multiple servings and should be eaten within a few days, so it might be a little boring.  Since some items might contain foods she has not eaten before, I am going to use the 3 consecutive days of giving the food rule to watch for allergic reactions.  Also, there is the thought process around offering it for multiple days in a row so they get a sense for the taste.  I am willing to try this mindset. Monday:

  • Breakfast - Milk, mini pancakes and applesauce
  • Lunch - Bibby's Red Beans and Ham
  • Snack - Banana Bread Sticks
  • Dinner - Milk and Chicken and Noodles

Tuesday:

  • Breakfast - Milk, Sturdy Teething Biscuits with fruit spread
  • Lunch - Milk and Bibby's Red Beans and Ham
  • Snack - Banana Bread Sticks
  • Dinner - Milk and Chicken and Noodles

  • Snack - Banana Bread Sticks
  • Dinner - Milk and Chicken and Noodles

Meal Planning Monday - Week 15

by Michelle in

Today the husband and I begin a new lifestyle eating plan...Paleo.  I am a big carb and dairy fan, so this will be a very interesting 31 days.  With the Paleo 'Diet', there are 3 levels.  The beginning level is called Entry Level and is based on the 85-15 rule, meaning that 15 percent of your meals for a week are non-Paleo meals, so basically a cheat meal, although you are advised to indulge a bit and not inhale all the dairy and carbs that are considered forbidden.  This level is for 2 weeks and I hope to not indulge too much here and there.  So here we go, week 15 of meal planning and week 1 of Paleo: Monday:

    • Breakfast - Egg and Sausage with a smoothie
    • Lunch - Reheated Pork Loin
    • Dinner - Turkey Burger and Sweet Potato Fries

Tuesday:

    • Breakfast - Breakfast Cup and fruit
    • Lunch - Tuna
    • Dinner - Dave Wendel's Flank Steak Roulade

Wednesday:

    • Breakfast - Chicken Biscuit and fruit
    • Lunch - Deli Meat
    • Dinner - Asian-Inspired Chicken Wings

Thursday:

    • Breakfast - Eggs, 1 oz sausage and fruit
    • Lunch - Eating out with some previous co-workers
    • Dinner - Coconut Shrimp with CCCC Sweet & Spicy Sauce

Friday:

    • Lunch - Deli Meat
    • Dinner - Blackberry Glazed Grilled Pork Chops

Saturday:

    • Breakfast - Paleo Pancakes
    • Lunch - Dry Rub Chicken Burgers and Sweet Potato Fries
    • Dinner - Roasted Turkey

Sunday:

    • Breakfast - Paleo Breakfast Casserole
